About these figures
- Results alone don't make a school: intake, size and the year group all matter, so read them alongside the school's own information and its Ofsted report.
- Progress 8 isn't published for 2024/25.
- A subject ranking only includes schools with 10 or more GCSE entries, or 5 or more A-level entries, in that subject.
- Independent schools are listed after the rest with "not published": they don't have to report Key Stage 2 or GCSE results to the DfE (most publish their own on their websites). For them only the grade shares are shown (8–9, 7+, 4+): the government's Attainment 8 and English and maths measures leave out the IGCSEs most of them take, so they read far too low.
- Being near a school does not guarantee a place, and the neighbourhoods listed are not a catchment. Being nearby helps for most community schools, but grammar, faith, academy and independent schools set their own admissions rules: check the council's rules and past allocation distances.
- Wales: results are not published by school in the same way, so Welsh schools aren't ranked.
